Alex Morgan is a professional female footballer/ Soccer player. She starred in the U.S national teams which later won the Olympic gold and Women’s World Cup by FIFA. She became the youngest player in the US women’s national soccer team in 2009. Also in 2011, she was the first overall pick in the Women’s Professional Soccer draft. Alex earned her first Olympic gold medal after teaming with the U.S and defeating Japan. 

In the year 2012, Alex Morgan scored a total of 20 goals a year setting a record as the youngest US player to achieve 20 goals in a year. That year, Alex was named as the US Soccer Female Athlete of the year. 

Childhood and Early Life

Alex Morgan, Alexandra Patricia Morgan for full was born on July 2, 1989, in San Dimas, California. She is the daughter of proud parents Micheal T. Morgan and Pamela S. She was raised in the city of Diamond Bar along with her two big sisters Jeni and Jeri.

Ever since her childhood, Alex was energetic and athletic in comparison to other children. Attending Diamond Bar High School, she discovered her strength and interest in running and sprinting. Although being good at sports, Alex only started playing soccer when she was 14 years old. At school, she was a three-time all-league pick and the coaches even named her All-American. 

At 14 years, she joined the ‘Cypress Elite’ making her first debut in the soccer club. After winning some matches, she received the third position in the team. Taking a deep interest in soccer, Alex practiced soccer every day. When Alex was 17, she was selected in the U.S. under 20 women’s national soccer team. Unfortunately, due to an injury, she could not join the team until 2008. 

After being nationally known, she also became a part of the regional and state team of the “Olympic Development Program” (ODP). As for her studies, she went to the University of California in Berkeley taking Political Economy. She completed her studies one semester early and immediately joined the ‘California Golden Bears’ for her soccer career. She joined the team and played soccer from 2007 to 2010. Through time and practice, she became the top three finalists for the ‘Hermann Trophy’.

Career

Alex initiated her international career at the 2008 CONCACAF Women’s Championship in Puebla, Mexico. This was the first time the international audience saw Alex Morgan playing soccer. She played a match against Cuba where she made her first international goal. 

Later, she appeared in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World cup. There she scored four goals that helped the US team to win the tournament. After showing her excellent skills in the game, she was marked as scoring the best goal in the match. She was then ranked up to the second-best football player and the third-highest scorer winning the silver Ball and a Bronze Shoe after the match.

Alex continued playing as a member of the Golden Bears for four years. In 2010, she was ranked 3rd in the all-time goalscorers list with a total of 45 goals and 107 points. 

In 2010, Alex Morgan was marked as a senior national team player. In a match against Italy, Alex scored her most significant goal which led the US team to the finals of the FIFA Women’s World cup.

International stardom

When Alex was 22, she was marked as the youngest US player in the 2011 FIFA Women’s World cup. The team played outstandingly, where they ended up winning silver. In 2011, Alex was drafted first in the Women’s Professional Soccer draft organized by the Western New York Flash. The same year she was included in the U.S women’s national team in the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Being the youngest player on the team, Alex scored crucial goals which led her team into the finals. The team lost against Japan but was recognized internationally.

After succeeding several matches, Alex teamed up with the United Soccer Lead’s Seattle Sounders Women along with other Professional members like Sydney Leroux, Hope Solo, Stephanie Cox, and Megan Rapinoe. Later she again joined the Portland Thorns FC and the National Women’s Soccer League’s Orlando Pride.

In the 2019 World cup opening match, Alex alone scored 5 goals against Thailand (13-0) and won the match. The U.S team surpassed England in the semi-finals and tackled the Netherlands in the finals. After winning with 2 goals, they won the overall World Cup title.

In the year 2016, Alex and several other of her teammates joined forces to file a complaint against Wage discrimination among men and female in sports. They filed against U.S Soccer for the compensation of players on men’s and women’s national teams. Even till 2020, players have filed an appeal.

Yes, Alex Morgan is married to her college sweetheart Servando Carrasco who is also a pro soccer player. They dated for 7 years then tied knots on December 31st, 2014.
